Even our 10.5” 223/556 Barrel, has been 3rd party tested and the result was ½ MOA! We are 100% committed to developing industry leading products and barrels. We work with the top shooters, as well manufacture barrels for other top brands. Thanks again for choosing Northtech Defense.
Break in procedure:
Shoot one round, let cool to ambient temp of 68F , and clean with copper brush, and patch. Shoot 3 rounds, (let cool and use the same procedure for cleaning), Shoot 5 rounds, (let cool and use the same procedure for cleaning). Shoot 7 rounds, (let cool and use the same procedure for cleaning). Shoot ten rounds, let cool. Clean again. Shoot 15 rounds, let cool all the way and clean. Shoot 30 rounds. Let cool, and clean thoroughly.
THE GOAL: pre harden the barrel evenly, (break in period) 416SS is a material which will harden as it is used. You DO-NOT want to heat the crap out of it right off the bat! Do it in an even manner, and let it cool evenly. Our barrels have been known to shoot 12-15k rounds and still shoot sub-moa, set-up properly. We get customer feedback all the time, about how much people are really happy with them.
During Cleaning:
1.USE PROPER CLEANING EQUIPMENT
2.USE A BORE GUIDE
3.CLEAN FROM CHAMBER END
4.USE A BRONZE BRUSH/ W CLEANING LUBE
5.FOLLOW OUR INSTALL PROCEDURE!!! AND PROPER BREAK IN PROCEDURE
NOTE:
The loss of accuracy can be linked to a dirty or fouled barrel approximately 98% of the time. Do-not modify our heat treating or cryogenic treatments. DO-NOT Melonite, or modify our barrels. Do not add chrome to our barrels. It is always best to use a non-nickel boron BCG.
For best results, of course, it is necessary to 'season' it and use proper cleaning equipment. We like the Dewey coated rods, a good bore guide, copper/bronze brushes and cotton flannel patches, the appropriate size to keep that jag and rod in the middle of the bore. You will need a good bore solvent, like KG 3, Shooters Choice or CR-10 to loosen the fouling, followed by a scrubbing with Holland's Witches Brew or KG 2. After cleaning, nullify the solvents with rubbing alcohol and patch dry. Finish with Tetra Gun Oil, KG 4 or Holland's Bbl Break-in Fluid. Never shoot a dry bore as this will greatly promote copper fouling.
